More Opportunities for Late Room Rate Discounts
Turbulent state of the hotel market leads to 40% more late room rate discount opportunities.
Hotelscene’s latest research into the turbulent state of the UK hotel market has revealed a massive increase in the number of rooms that hotels are offloading at last-minute discounted rates.
“Our client preferred rates are, in most cases, no more than ceiling rates – ensuring that this is the absolute maximum they will pay” says Nick Hurrell, Hotelscene Sales and Marketing Director. “It’s very common for lower rates to be available at the time of booking. However, what’s interesting is the number of times where hotels offer further discounts in the few days leading up to the time of stay – in most cases after the original booking has been made at the supposedly best available rate.”
Such rates offer excellent value, but are normally snapped up by leisure travellers looking for last minute special offers. Corporate travellers, who normally book a week or two in advance, can miss out as very few systems can track such changes after the booking has been made – resulting in lost savings opportunities. However, Hotelscene’s AutoRebook tool captures these late changes.
“AutoRebook tracks all room rate changes – right up to the day of check in – and if a lower rate becomes available after the reservation has been made, offers the opportunity to rebook at the lower rate. So far this year, an average of over 2400 bookings per month have been tracked as rebooking opportunities. This is a massive increase of 42% over the same time last year.”
Not all the newly presented rates are suitable for the corporate market – with some imposing heavy cancellation penalties or lower grade rooms – but all opportunities are analysed through the Hotelscene reservation processes. “It’s this constant monitoring of hotel rates that continues to drive out cost for our clients” says Hurrell.
